7 Open Letters to JK Rowling
Casting a spell strong enough to be heard by those who will not listen
Howdy queer believers! Today we’re taking a long walk through open letters to JK Rowling. The chances of her listening seem increasingly unlikely, but that doesn’t mean these things don’t need to be said anyway. Check the first link for a surprise appearance (and disappearance) by Stephen King.
1. Does JK Rowling Pass The Voldemort Test?
It takes less than 30 seconds to tell whether the other person is secretly Voldemort.
One of the best insights a therapist gave me was that you could tell within about thirty seconds (or maybe a single tweet) whether the other person is having the same conversation as you.

2. Resorting JK Rowling
Alas, poor Rowling, I knew ye well.
I don’t have anything but kind words for JK. She’s got the same first initials as the man who tackles a character so hard to play that he’s the only one they brought back for multiple iterations.
I just wish JK Rowling would acknowledge the people she’s hurting.

3. How do I tell my child that Harry Potter’s mom abuses women and children?
How do I tell my child that JK Rowling might now abuse them, too?
As adults, most of us can separate a person from their position. JK Rowling was abused terribly by men. She now acts out that pain as a trauma response by abusing women and children who remind her of those men.
As adults, we can see that. We can appreciate her as a creative genius who also abuses women and children.
As adults, we can appreciate that her trauma blinds her to the harmful impact of her behavior.
But when it comes to our kids? To them, JK Rowling isn’t just an author. She’s like a mom.

4. Why people are losing their minds about Harry Potter and JK Rowling AGAIN
Where tf does it end?
If JK Rowling is willing to diminish, harm, and abuse any woman who has had what she can personally (and legally?!) identify as a transgender experience — where will she stop?
If JK Rowling believes she is justified in diminishing, harming, and abusing any woman who reminds her of the men who hurt her — I fear her boundless ambition means she won’t stop with trans women.

5. I’ve never seen JK Rowling hurt anyone, so why won’t you shut up about it?
Are you ready for some fan mail??? I get letters from people who seem to think that winning an argument with me would somehow erase the harmful, abusive impact of JK Rowling’s actions.
(or their own)
Names, dates, and other random stuff has been changed to provide some degree of anonymity for the person writing to us. They shouldn’t be hounded and harassed just because they publicly shared their bigoted positions with millions (billions?!) of people.

6. Dear Cisters fan mail (YAY!!) from JK Rowling fans (uh-oh…)
JK Rowling fans sent me a few letters (and they all missed the point).
Welcome to Dear Cisters, the column that’s more like Dear Abby than the Savage Lovecast. I’m your host Stephenie Magister, transgender writer/nerd/editor for award-winning and best-selling books.
Are you ready for some fan mail??? These letters were written primarily in response to Why People Are Losing Their Minds About JK Rowling AGAIN

7. Move Over JK Rowling, There’s A New TERF In Town
Christina Dalcher, best-selling author for outrageously transphobic “Femlandia,” gets fact checked on #ThePower by trans activist who has actually read what she’s quoting.
JK Rowling Can Finally Retire; Team TERF Has Found A New Champion!
NOTE: A previous version referred to Dalcher as a NYT best-selling author, but she has never sold that many books. I regret the error. With such violent, harmful, deadly behavior on her part, I pray she never achieves that level of success. She is an ally for violent and abusive men so long as they support her decisions to abuse whatever women she declares don’t count.
